An account of The Elham Charity School

In his will, Sir John Williams left his house in the Square at Elham and some land to establish a charity school for six boys from Elham village. The boys were to be admitted at age eight until fourteen and were to be clothed once in two years.

This book has been pieced together from the Account and Memorandum books, old letters, deeds and acrappy bills. It tells the story of a school that lasted for nearly 200 years until part of it was sold to the Education Authority for the new Elham Church of England School. Some was invested and continues to provide grants to students at schools or universities, to provide assistance to enter a trade or profession and to promote education.
